I saw a used book at a reasonable price (compared to the new book price on Amazon) I wanted on Abebooks offered through Books from California. I always prefer to support smaller companies so I sent an email and asked them the condition of the book, if it had any highlighting etc.. When I got the email the following day telling me the condition, the price of the book jumped up $20. When i inquired why, they said, "prices fluctuate hourly due to pricing software. It is set to match the current surrounding prices. " The price hadn't fluctuated the day before (and hasn't budged since) and they are not selling stocks but books. So I'll buy the book from Amazon where the new book price is about the same as the new "fluctuating" price on Books from California. I'll also make sure to look carefully when I use Abebooks to not purchase from Books From California.
