I signed up for a three month trial with MyLife early December 2010. After a short time, I did not think the service was worth what it was charging, results were negligible. In the first week of January, I disabled automatic renewal and checked the account page at MyLife for that feature. It confirmed that auto renewal was disabled however, did not show any further instructions for notifying Paypal to cancel auto payment.
There was a statement indicating that my premiere membership would expire early in March unless I enabled auto renewal. I also received an email from MyLife customer support confirming my action to disable auto renewal. Reputable firms honor their word and agreements.
MyLife did not. On March 8, 2011, I received a congratulatory note from MyLife stating that my membership had been renewed for three months. They have ignored my request for a refund and Paypal has sent them payment and charged my credit card. Fortunately, the credit card company stands behind its customers and with my documentation in the matter, I am reasonably sure the charge will be rejected.
Given the number of exact same reviews/complaints on MyLife, one has to question the reliability of Paypal to continue working with this firm. Certainly enough disputes have been filed to question MyLife's business practices and better protect the consumer. Moreover, in light of the complaints filed, BBB should refrain from calling them 'allegations' and label them as complaints. MyLife is using a 'double hook' approach. If the auto payment feature is not disabled, the customer will continue to be charged. But even if the feature IS disabled, MyLife has also set up an auto payment process with the member's credit card service or Paypal. WITHOUT approval from the consumer.
