I have been buying Smart Circle cards for years! Mostly salon's and restaurants and a couple major league sports. My co-workers and I eagerly wait to see what the representative will bring by on his next visit. To be honest I have NEVER had a problem with any of my services. I even found a new massage therapist that I LOVE!! I did buy a restaurant certificate once and the restaurant closed before I could use it, so I called the customer service line, they told me to mail the card back to them and then they would reimburse my money. It's not a scam or a hoax, I did what I was told and in about a month I had my check. One spa card expired before I could use it, and again they swapped it out for me, no worries. I spoke with the sales rep who always stops by my office and he said they had an extensive authorization process for businesses they work with. So if a business doesn't accept your card (like a few reviews I read here) then it only looks bad for that business. I love Smart Circle deals, but I agree with another reviewer, call the business to verify before you buy the deal. That way you know it's legit!
